Good day for Malaysian shuttlers in Rio


RIO DE JANEIRO: World number one badminton player, Lee Chong Wei is facing tense as this is his 3rd edition of the Olympic Games in his career. The two times Olympic silver medal winner is so determined to win the gold this time, although he faces the challenges from his friends from China, Lin Dan and Chen Long. Chong Wei won against Opti Soren from Republic of Suriname with 21-2, 21-3 in just 19 minutes. Today, he will play against Wong Zi Ling Derek of Singapore, at 1955 hours Malaysian time.


Meanwhile National Women’s Doubles won 21-17,24-22 in 48 minutes. Next, this duo will play against Hong Kong today at 2110 hours Malaysian time. Hoo Vivian Kah Mun and Woon Khe Wei, who playing their first Olympic excited and want to try their best until the semi final and if they lucky enough for the finals. Their  performances was not consistent from last games in world arena that doubt viewers for their victory. Khe Wai injured her hand in the second set when her partner’s racket collides with hers’.


Malaysia’s Men's Doubles played in Group B represented by Tan Wee Kiong and Goh V Shem against German and won 21-14 21-17 in 32 minutes. Today the duo will play against United States of America at 1925 hours Malaysian time. The duo is the best Malaysian men’s doubles and indeed their performance, also not consistently as from the last few games which worried us.


On the other hand, Malaysia Mixed Double Group Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying played against Thailand's Isara and Amitrapai duo and won 21-13,21-19 in just 39 minutes. Later today, this team will play against the Indonesian team at 2110 hours Malaysian time. Lastly, our Malaysia Women’s Single Tee Jing Yi will only start her match tomorrow, 13 August 2016 against the Czech Republic's Gavnholt Kristina. From this, let us hope that Malaysia Badminton team can contribute some medals from Olympic Rio 2016.
